Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on August 18, 2008 at 8:25:57 AM
ASE Adnet will be posting the July payments this week. You can expect to have the payment done by Wednesday or Thursday. If you aren't sure what you will be paid (if at all), it is on the revenue report. Just select since last payment and if the total is over $25 up till August, you'll get paid. August is not included, so be mindful of that.

If you have questions, just let me know aron [at] aselabs.com.

Speed And Redundancy Coming

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on August 12, 2008 at 1:20:52 PM
ASE Adnet is at the point to add another server to the mix to provide added stability and redundancy. Speed is really less of an issue since the server it's on right now can handle 10 times the load that it currently has with no problem. I'm taking the time to get a second server just right to provide the maximum benefit for publishers.

If you are interested, it will probably be a Dual 3.2GHz Xeon with 2GB of RAM. 2 x 250GB Hard drives (One for snapshots of backups for both servers). I haven't decided on RHEL5 or CentOS5 since RHEL doesn't cost any additional fee. I'll probably just go with Red Hat and do the normal yum updates.

This second server will be totally dedicated to providing backups and the backend of ASE Adnet (the part that serves the ads). The front end will stay on the current server as it is much less important. As soon as the new server is up and running, a few tests will need to be done to see if it can handle itself with no problems. Rest assured, all testing will be done at way off-peak hours on the weekend when traffic is very low.

If you are more interested, it will be hosted at ThePlanet in a different datacenter than the current server.

Reminder: Code Update Tonight

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on August 2, 2008 at 8:58:16 PM
This is just a reminder that the backend for ASE Adnet will be upgraded tonight to provide additional features and to lay the groundwork for future redundancy. The update should go smooth and I expect no downtime during the update. There may be a few second of slowness, but nothing major.

Update: The code update is done ahead of schedule and everything seems to be working fine. Please let me know if you notice any errors or other issues.

It's August and we are running a brand new contest. Make sure you check it out: »http://www.ase.cc/articles.php?id=21

The July 2008 statistics have been compiled. Let's see where everything stands. I believe that August should be an interesting month as well.

You can see a large change from last month. IE no longer has a large gap between Firefox. This is due to more sites coming on the network. August should be interesting as we have more sites in the technical category (the target for Adnet).

Proper Member Index Coming

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on July 28, 2008 at 9:21:46 AM
I'm working on a new member index for the front end to ASE Adnet. It will show you today's tracking report as well as some other information so you can get a clear picture of what is happening, fast.

There is really no reason to show the initial sign up page when you are logged in. I'll fix that. If you have any ideas on extra information to include in the default index for members, please let me know.

Reminder: Ads Are For Advertisers As Well

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on June 21, 2008 at 12:37:49 PM
To all publishers, thank you for using ASE Adnet. Please remember that advertising is available only at the discretion of the companies willing to pay. Please make sure the you are doing your best to have relevant products being shown and to minimize the mistake clicking that some users may do.

As a reminder, the revenue reports that are provided daily are only lightly audited and a full audit will occur at the end of the month. If your conversions are not up to par, you may not get your full revenue. We are aiming for a 1% conversion rate (meaning at least 1 person in every hundred people that clicks buy something). If this conversion rate cannot be done, some publishers might have their revenue credited back to the merchants (they don't want to pay for advertising that isn't working) or the quality score might be lower and will pay less overall.

Remember that we want quality. I believe we are working well together and we just need to continue making efforts to help people make purchases.

Product Reports Added

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on June 17, 2008 at 8:41:06 AM
On very interesting addition was suggested by one of the publishers. All publishers now have access to another report in the Reports section.

The new report called "Product" will allow you to search by date and campaign for a list of products with counts to easily determine what is being clicked on. With this report, you can easily increase your CTR by showing the more relevant products that people want to buy.

The report is generated hourly just as the tracking report is done currently. If you have any suggestions on further improvements to ASE Adnet, please let me know. aron [at] aselabs.com

The additions made to ASE Adnet since the first guide was released are now incorporated into the updated "Creating your first ad" guide. »http://www.ase.cc/articles.php?id=7

In addition to showing how to use the simple generator, page 2 of the guide shows off the power of the advanced generator. It gives you two examples with resulting code, the returned body, and the CSS used to make the ads displayed. »http://www.ase.cc/articles.php?id=7&page=2

If there is anything that needs additional explanation, please let me know.

More Ad Sizes

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on June 12, 2008 at 9:48:02 PM
I see the benefit of adding new sizes to the simple generator for publishers that cannot make use of the advanced functions of ASE Adnet. I'm pleased to announce the addition of two new large format single ad units.

In addition to the new ad sizes, these new format have extra information including the store rating and the merchant logo image. Users of the advanced generator can now receive this information by setting the new option of "Show Extra Fields" to yes in the generator or adding the variable "var aseadnshowextra=1;" to your code. I'm in the process of creating and updating the guides for the simple and advanced generators.

I would also like to add that the 125x125 and the 180x150 ad units have been updated. The new look is great. I will add new link only units soon to the simple generator so please send me the sizes you'd like to see the most.

Thank you for being a part of ASE Adnet.

New Simple Generator Additions

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on June 9, 2008 at 10:03:28 PM
I'm please to announce enhancements to the simple ad generator that most people use to give you more options at your fingertips. You now have the ability to select what font you want to use for your ads using the simple generator.

Remember that the advanced generator gives you full control over your ads using CSS.

The simple generator also has two new ad sizes that show a single product, great for product reviews. The new sizes are 450x160 and 400x100 and are noted with "(S)" for single.

The simple generator now shows the selected colors by the options. The "Chart" link is now a colored box you can click on. If you manually enter a hex color, it will also show in the box.

Everyone that has a balance at the end of May no longer has that balance. Payments were sent regardless if you met the minimum or not. Since ASE Adnet is new, publishers can use these payments for "proof of payment" when discussing ASE Adnet.

Remember that June is the month you can win a Xbox 360 so get those referrals in!

ASE Adnet Downtime

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on June 2, 2008 at 8:20:39 AM
ASE sites were down due to a huge datacenter problem at ThePlanet were ASE gets its servers from. A power transformer blew up and caused massive damage. Thankfully, the servers were isolated and they were fine. The problem was (as they say) that the fire department wouldn't let them turn on the backup generators or anything so people like me were stuck for a day and a half without servers.

Things like this wouldn't be that big of an issue if ThePlanet had good communication. I didn't know that it was a datacenter problem until 2.5 hours after my server was down. Then during the fiasco, ThePlanet lacked proper timetables. I'm very unhappy with ThePlanet over how they handled this.

Welcome To ASE Adnet

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on April 16, 2008 at 11:07:40 AM
ASE Adnet is the first network built for publishers. I would like to welcome everyone to the Adnet weblog. This weblog (not blog as people call it) will demonstrate and give useful tips for all publishers looking to monetize their site. With ASE Adnet, you are providing a service to your readers by showing them pricing information for products.

Try not to think of Adnet as an advertising network. It is more of a content network that provides publishers with a value-added feature. You will make money and give readers something extra at the same time. Now that's a win-win.
