New Shopping Page Coming

Posted on August 26, 2009 at 9:14:52 AM
ASE Adnet will be revamping its entire shopping page to include more content and more features. We'll be working on the new page this week. Once the new page is completed and moved to replace the current one, publishers using the in-domain shopping page will need to update their own pages. We will allow a transition period for this new page, though.

Posted on August 24, 2009 at 10:15:57 AM
The Joomla plugin for use with ASE Adnet has been updated to include a few more features. In this version (1.1), you can select where the ads will pull their keywords from if there is no specific Adnet keywords given in the article itself.

You have the ability to use the article title, the meta keywords, or a new field to enter generic default keywords site wide. This extension is a registered and verified extension for Joomla.

The button hasn't changed, so there is no need to download a new version of that.

Shopping Page Additions

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on August 21, 2009 at 11:43:45 AM
The ASE Adnet shopping page is doing a minor upgrade to include CPS merchants (not by default) and to be able to show products that aren't new (like OEM or refurbs). There will be slight changes to the default CSS. If you have a shopping page on your own domain, please add this to your CSS file to make the initial change work.

Code

div.aseadnetshoparea div.aseadnetshopproduct ul li dd.stock span{display:block; font-size:12px;}

The example shopping page include will be updated as well. If you'd like to see the example shopping page, please email us and we will give you the demo page.

This change will be taking place tonight. We will contact everyone that has a in domain shopping page.

CPS Updates Soon

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on August 9, 2009 at 12:19:50 PM
For publishers that want to try a new CPS (Cost Per Sale) system that may boost revenue over CPC ads due to taking into account the cost of the item, ASE Adnet is pleased to announce that this new system is being implemented soon.

You will see some additional information in reports for CPS revenue sources. Right now, since there are no CPS sources, these are just place holders until the new sources come out of development. They are coming soon...

Revenue Reports Not Finalized For Weekend

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on July 26, 2009 at 10:21:40 AM
There is a delay in reporting for the secondary CPC provider so the data from Friday and Saturday is incomplete. This will be corrected as soon as possible. Once we get the reporting data from the provider, we will update the revenue reports to be current. This is just a notice of why some things may look strange. Reporting delays happen from time to time and we feel it is good to inform the publishers when this happens.

Edit: The data is now current. Sorry for the delay.

Stats Updated Every 30 Minutes

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on July 7, 2009 at 9:36:55 AM
As a temporary fix to the bug that caused the tracking problem a few days ago, the stats will now be updated every 30 minutes. A new way of grabbing data from the backend servers is being worked out now to permanently fix the issue, regardless of traffic. The reason that the stats broke was that there was a surge of traffic which caused the script to grab the stats to die due to excessive data being copied to the frontend server. Since the script never finished, it kept trying and trying till it was manually fixed. Having the stats update more often will fix the symptom. The actual cure will be installed in a few days.

As a reminder, we've got a July contest running! »http://www.aseadnet.com/news.php?id=111 Win an Apple iPod Touch!

Click Graphs, Tracking Off Today

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on July 4, 2009 at 8:59:27 AM
There was a slight error transferring stats from the backend servers to the front end database that occurred sometime last night. This caused clicks to be multiplied. The tracking reports should show fairly accurate data, but the graphs will be off until the data can be cleansed (if it can). This will have no bearing on revenue reports and no clicks have been lost. The error has been corrected.

Edit: The data should be correct for the clicks, maybe not for views. Expect little traffic over the holiday weekend as well and have a good 4th of July!

Traffic Down

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on June 15, 2009 at 9:52:25 AM
This weekend saw a very big drop in traffic across the entire network of publisher sites on ASE Adnet. Summer is approaching fast and that is generally the time when traffic becomes diminished for technology related sites. As a publisher, if you have any tips you'd like to share to keep traffic higher during the off months and would like to share, please drop us an email listed on the adcode page.

One tip that Adnet gives to all publishers is to keep the price comparison ads looking fresh. Don't stick with the same layout for more than a couple of months. A fresh look will stop repeat readers from missing those merchant pricing links.

Backend Update Today

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on May 11, 2009 at 11:15:32 AM
A new update has hit the production area for the backend of ASE Adnet. This update was in staging for over a week without issues but if any publisher notices anything strange, do not hesitate to contact us. The major visible thing that this update does it to hide all the variables sent by ASE Adnet so no one can switch them around. Also, this takes care of old links that lose money from being expired. Older links will now redirect to the shopping page so the publisher can get credit instead of not making money at all.

Contest Soon

ASE Adnet will be running a new contest soon to celebrate its first birthday. Get those referrals ready to go. As a reminder, each new publisher that you refer will earn you 10% of whatever they make in the first year. That money comes out of Adnet's pocket and not the publisher themselves. It is a thank you for bringing a new publisher into the network.

ASE Adnet's data quality has consistently increased and now is a great time to join.

DNS Problems Caused By DDoS Attack

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on April 7, 2009 at 9:57:36 AM
From ThePlanet...

Quote

We apologize for the delays in updating you regarding the problems.

We had a network problem with connections to our main nameservers. The nameservers were the target of a DDOS attack. All domain records were dropped as a result. This was causing problems for any domain using our name servers. This should be corrected now and you should be able to access your sites.

However, there may be a delay because of propagation time after the reload of the zone files. Please test your domains to see if they have fully propagated and caches at your ISP have updated.

If you have further problems, please feel free to update this trouble ticket with the domains affected.

Thank you for choosing The Planet,

DNS was not working for a couple of hours from 12AM EDT to around 3AM. This caused Adnet's servers to appear down when they were up and running.

New Provider Is Live

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on March 21, 2009 at 10:02:59 AM
All ads have been updated to provide enhanced data from the new backend data provider. In addition to the new CPC provider, Storm is ready to be used as well. Storm ads can be generated in the normal Ad Code section. We are updating all the guides and creating new ones this weekend to give publishers information on what the changes are and how to use the new functionality. There is another update that will hit staging soon to provide enhanced data for the UK region as well.

Teaser Update Tonight

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on March 16, 2009 at 11:21:34 AM
ASE Adnet will be rolling out an update to provide the new shopping page as well as a new delivery system for enhanced banner ads. This new delivery system is called ASE Adnet Storm (or Storm, for short). Storm will only show CPA ads and the new system will be using Amazon and provide a very good revenue share of 60% or more, depending on how many items are sold in each period. With Storm, ASE Adnet will be allowing all publishers to join and show ads from the Storm delivery system.

While the adgen will be updated to support Storm, it will not be available for use until the end of the week. This is just a teaser. Mid week will also usher in the new primary CPC provider.

Big Update Tomorrow, March 13th - Updated

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on March 12, 2009 at 9:47:22 AM
Friday, the 13th, will bring a rather large update to the frontend and backend systems at ASE Adnet. We are moving the new primary CPC data provider into production and pushing out new shopping pages along with a host of other new features for ads. All guides on ASE Adnet will be rewritten and new guides will be added to explain new functionality.

We have example PHP pages as well that you can download to see how things work and even upload them to your own server for testing. This update was a month in the making.

Edit: Unfortunately, this update will have to wait till mid next week due to reporting glitches on the data provider side. We will have a teaser page up tomorrow to show off the quality of the new data, though.

Shopping Page Change

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on March 8, 2009 at 2:49:48 PM
The new update to Adnet will usher in a new primary CPC provider and with that comes a whole host of changes. You can still retain your shopping pages by pointing the include to http://www.aseadnet.com/shoppingold.php instead of shopping.php. This can be changed on your include pages right now.

The new shopping pages are much more in-depth and provide a wealth of information to help people with their purchases. New guides will be released soon on how to integrate the shopping page onto your own domain.

The planned update should take place on Monday or Tuesday. There will be no changes needed for live ads. New features will be added for live ads soon that you will probably want to update them sooner or later.

Content.ase.cc to content.aseadnet.com

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on March 6, 2009 at 1:33:32 PM
In addition to the new server, the main domain for ads will be switched from content.ase.cc to content.aseadnet.com. All current ads pointing to content.ase.cc will continue to work without issue.

ase.cc was being used to provide a smaller sized url and to leave out the term "adnet" in the domain, but ase.cc is now on adblocker's lists. When the new code is released on Monday, the adcode generator will be using content.aseadnet.com.

You can easily switch to using content.aseadnet.com right now, if you wish. The domains are aliased together.

Content1 Move This Week

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on March 2, 2009 at 4:37:29 PM
There will be a complete server move of Server1 this week. Content1 (content1.ase.cc) is on Server1. The new server will be better, faster, and stronger.

There is no planned downtime for live ads. Before the move, DNS will be updated to point content1 over to Server2 so there will be no issues with ad serving. After all the testing on the new server is complete, DNS will be updated again to point content1 back to the new Server1.

Edit: The new server is undergoing testing right now. If everything checks out, the DNS switch will probably happen on Friday and the total switch on Saturday.
